The ventilation of a detached house works efficiently with Airfi’s air handling units – fresh indoor air all year round

In a two-building detached house project completed between 2020 and 2022 in Itäharju, Turku, ventilation is provided by three Airfi air handling units: two Model 60 units and one Model 100. The units are installed in the technical room, the guest house, and the entrance hall of the second apartment.

The total floor area of the property is 298 m². It is a timber-framed house designed by an architect. The façade features king boarding made of glued timber.

The house is home to energy engineer Ville Packalén, who works in an international power-plant development environment, and his spouse. Their children have already moved out on their own.

Airfi Air Handling Units as Part of Home Automation

In this project, the Airfi air handling units operate as part of the KNX home-automation system, into which they were integrated effortlessly. According to the residents and designers, Airfi’s devices and software work seamlessly and reliably as part of the overall system. The resident explains: “We’ve received excellent service, and someone always answers the phone. The Airfi team has also supported the automation designers throughout the process. The units are easy to use – they work perfectly on their own, but in this case they’re integrated into the home-automation system.”

Fresh Indoor Air and Excellent Comfort

The residents’ experiences have been extremely positive. Airfi air handling units are quiet, reliable and effortless to use. “The updates have been great, everything has worked flawlessly – not a single malfunction. The units are quiet, the filtration works excellently even during pollen season, and the indoor air quality has remained consistently pleasant and fresh,” the resident says.

The resident summarises: “I used to be a strong advocate of natural ventilation, but I’ve made a 180-degree turn. The air quality is on a completely different level compared to a system without equipment – even insects and dust stay out. Heat recovery is efficient and well-controlled.”

Efficient ventilation and satisfied users

The project’s HVAC designer originally recommended Airfi. Both the residents and the automation designers have been very satisfied with the technical support and customer service. “We’ve received excellent service – working with Airfi has been easy and smooth,” the resident describes.

In the Itäharju detached-house project, Airfi air handling units form a technically advanced and user-friendly part of an intelligent building system. The result is energy-efficient, fresh, quiet and unobtrusive air handling that makes living comfortable – just as it should be.
